Whirlwind birthday week

This past week was all about Nicole's 40th birthday and the preparations for it. She had decided to invite our colleagues to a birthday lunch buffet and we spent a lot of time planning and preparing it. In the end it was all worth it, everybody loved it and Nicole had a great time, even proclaiming it her best birthday ever! 
The buffet was a bit of a hybrid mix between what we would usually serve up back home in a buffet with a few English buffet staples thrown in.
On one side we had a mix of home-baked and shop-bought breads, then soup, soft drinks, wine, beer from our hometown (all not visible on these photos), various salads, meat balls, cheese, cold meats, pickles, vegetable sticks, various dips (e.g. salsa, salmon and cream cheese, etc), quiches, eggs:


I loved this side of the buffet with lots of snacks and sweet things. We had a selection of crisps and other savoury snacks, various varieties of Haribo (brought back with us when we last were in Germany), German jelly flavours, yoghurts, fruit and cakes:

There are always quite a few dietary requirements to take into account when bringing food into work (well, we don't have to - but it's a bit silly to go to the effort of preparing food for everybody - instead of just going to the supermarket and buying a few boxes - without trying to ensure that there's something for everybody), so we had vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, pork-free and non-alcoholic options, as well as a selection of Dukan diet friendly dishes.
Since this is all about Nicole's birthday, there also needs to be a picture of the birthday girl on her big day:



There wasn't any scrapping time over the last week but things started to calm down yesterday. We had our monthly crop and I managed to complete week 2 of Project Life, as well as another 4 pages of my December Daily/Journal Your Christmas album. I'm still quite behind on the album with another 18 pages to go but I really hope to get it done this month. After all all of the pages are half-done already and just need some assembly and finishing touches (which takes me between 30 and 90 minutes for each of them, madness!). To be honest, though, I find myself struggling with it a bit this year; I find it very hard to get motivated to sit down and work on these pages, as much as I will probably enjoy the finished product. I think it's a mix of wanting to work on other things as well and never really having fallen in love with the paper collection I'm using. Anyhow, off to bake another cake for Nicole's birthday celebration with friends tomorrow evening!

Another random selection

I was so knackered at the weekend that I didn't get too much done scrapping-wise. But since this hobby is not about quantity, that's quite all right.

Ich war am Wochenende so kaputt, dass ich nicht allzu viel gescrappt habe. Aber bei diesem Hobby geht es ja schließlich nicht um Quantität, weshalb das halb so wild ist.

In my quest to get my older pictures scrapped, I came across some from my Mum's birthday this year. I'm not happy at all with the LO :( The wonky circle and dots annoy me and I think the PP is too busy for the photos.

Auf meinem Programm steht weiterhin, meine älteren Fotos zu scrappen. Dieses Mal sind mir Bilder von Mamas Geburtstag dieses Jahr zwischen die Finger gekommen. Das LO mag ich gar nicht :( Der krumme Kreis und die ungleichmäßigen Punkte ärgern mich und ich glaube, dass das Papier zu kräftig für die Bilder ist.

I used our scrap box for this one - it's growing and growing and really should be used more. I wanted to document how excited Nicole was when it snowed and how much fun she had during those few days.

Hier hab ich mal unsere Restekiste benutzt - die wächst nämlich beständig an und sollte mehr benutzt werden. Ich wollte festhalten, wie aufgeregt Nicole war, als es geschneit hat, und wie viel Spaß sie während dieser paar Tage hatte.

And then it was challenge time yet again in the PBF. This summer we're really being spoilt and I love it! It was another sketch challenge, this time by Marikka. I delved into the scrap box again and also gave my Maya Mists another try. I have to say I like them more and more...

Und dann war es auch schon wieder Zeit für eine Challenge im PBF. Diesen Sommer werden wir da wirklich verwöhnt und ich find es prima! Wir hatten wieder eine Sketch Challenge, dieses Mal von Marikka. Ich bin wieder in die Restekiste eingetaucht und hab auch noch mal meine Maya Mists ausprobiert. Ich muss schon sagen, dass sie mir mehr und mehr gefallen...

Random post is random

This is my first LO with the Studio Calico June kit. Like Nicole, I'm in love with it and it was not difficult to create some pages with it. The only thing I'm disappointed with is the photos I'm using. I ordered them online as usual but the majority of them came out really bad - dark and grainy. I complained to the company, it went back and forth, and now they're basically saying that the problem is in my screen settings. "Funny" though, that the pictures look exactly the same on my work screen as on this screen and that a print we got on holiday has the same picture with a lot more detail and colour... Won't be ordering from the again in the future.

Das ist mein erstes LO mit dem Juni Kit von Studio Calico. Wie Nicole auch, bin ich total begeistert von dem Kit und es war einfach, damit Seiten zu machen. Ich bin nur etwas enttäuscht von den Fotos, die ich benutzt habe. Ich habe sie wie immer online bestellt, aber der Großteil ist sehr schlecht geworden - so dunkel und grobkörnig. Ich habe mich bei der Firma beschwert, es ist hin und her gegangen, und im Endeffekt wollen sie das Problem jetzt auf meine Bildschirmeinstellungen schieben. Ist nur komisch, dass die Bilder auf meinem Bildschirm im Büro genauso wie hier aussehen; außerdem hatten wir von einem der Bilder auch schon im Urlaub einen Abzug machen lassen und der hat deutlich mehr Details und Farben... Werde von der Firma nichts mehr bestellen.

Finally came round to scrap my birthday

The title gives it away - the next two layouts are from my B-Day this year - yes, it is X-mas paper my pressies were wrapped in - that's kind of tradition ;)

Der Titel verrät eigentlich schon, dass die nächsten LOs von meinem Geburtstag in diesem Jahr sind - und bevor ihr euch fragt "Ist das Weihnachtspapier, in dem die Geschenke eingepackt sind?" - ja, ist es, ist aber auch Tradition...

Ahhh yes, only one seems to have a title which is (37), this is because they are next to one another in the album and I didn't want to repeat the title...

Oh, bevor ich's vergesse, es wirkt so, als ob nur ein LO einen Titel (37) hat, aber das ist Absicht, weil die Seiten im Album nebeneinander sind und ich mich nicht wiederholen wollte...

March 2009. The obligatory visit to celebrate Auntie's birthday. We arrived very early in the morning after driving through the night and this picture was taken before all the traffic on one of the main roads started. We simply couldn't resist shopping on a Saturday in the town centre.

März 2009. Der obligatorische Besuch, um Tantchens Geburtstag zu feiern. Wir sind sehr früh am Morgen angekommen, nachdem wir die Nacht durchgefahren waren. Dieses Bild ist entstanden, bevor die übliche Autoflut auf einer der Hauptstraßen richtig eingesetzt hat. Wir mussten einfach an einem Samstag in der Innenstadt einkaufen.

And it wouldn't be a visit home without a decent portion of Pommes Currywurst - that is one of the things I miss most since moving away. Fish and chips is yummy but no substitute for Pommes Currywurst rotweiß.

Und ein Besuch zuhause wäre nicht vollständig ohne eine anständige Portion Pommes Currywurst - das ist eine der Sachen, die mir am meisten abgehen, seitdem ich "verzogen" bin. Fish and chips ist lecker, aber einfach kein Ersatz für Pommes Currywurst rotweiß.

Birthday Girl

I took quite a few pictures on Mum's birthday but this is one of the few that is not blurred. If I didn't know better, I'd say I was a bit drunk ;) I made the LO using the January kit from Sarah's Cards; it kept on looking at me asking to be used and I couldn't refuse any longer.

Ich habe einige Fotos an Mamas Geburtstag geschossen, aber dies ist eines der wenigen scharfen. Wenn ich es nicht besser wüsste, würde ich ja sagen, ich war etwas betrunken ;) Für das LO habe ich Sarah's Cards Januar Kit benutzt; es hat mich so traurig angeschaut, dass ich es nicht länger ignorieren konnte.

Our garden... When we moved in last year, it had been neglected for several years. It is still far from perfect but we are happy with the results so far.

Unser Garten... Als wir letztes Jahr eingezogen sind, war er über mehrere Jahre hinweg vernachlässigt worden. Er ist immer noch lange nicht fertig, aber wir sind mit den bisherigen Ergebnissen zufrieden.


In January, a new challenge was posted in the PBF: Somebody would say a word and the next person would have to scrap whatever they associated with it. My prompt was "Fanclub Turnier" which was not that easy for me (what with never having been a member of a fanclub, etc). I ended up scrapping some pictures of me with friends meeting for musicals. The title is quite bold and big but each of the letters stands for one of the shows we've seen together.

Im Januar wurde eine neue Challenge im PBF gepostet: Jemand sagt ein Word, und der nächste muss verscrappen, was er damit assoziiert. Mein Wort war "Fanclub Turnier", was nicht einfach war (weil ich nie in einem Fanclub Mitglied war, etc). Im Endeffekt habe ich ein paar Bilder von mir mit Freunden bei Musicalbesuchen gescrappt. Der Titel ist ziemlich groß, aber jeder der Buchstaben steht für eine der Shows, die wir zusammen gesehen haben.

Two random LOs

Nicole's birthday wasn't too long ago and I just had to scrap the pictures :) Since she's posting some unflattering pictures of me, I am allowed to do just the same ;)

Nicole hatte vor Kurzem Geburtstag und ich musste diese Bilder einfach verscrappen :) Wenn sie unvorteilhafte Bilder von mir posten kann, darf ich das auch machen ;)


This LO contains some pictures that are nearly nine years old. They were taken when I went to Vienna to meet friends there for the first time. Since then we've met nearly every year (sometimes more than once in one year) and the next meet-up is planned for this May! Another LO where I challenged myself to use one of the kits I get; this is the beautiful February kit from Bellaboo.

Die Bilder auf diesem LO sind fast neun Jahre alt. Sie sind in Wien entstanden, als ich dort zum ersten Mal Freunde getroffen habe. Seitdem haben wir uns fast jedes Jahr getroffen (manchmal auch öfter) und unser nächstes Treffen ist für Mai geplant, wieder in Wien! Dies ist wieder ein LO, bei dem ich mir selbst die Challenge gestellt habe, eins meiner Kits zu benutzen; dies ist das Februar Kit von Bellaboo.

I'm feeling ashamed...

I have neglected this for nearly 2 weeks - though I have to admit that those last 2 weeks have been very busy. One thing I wanted to share with you is a voucher book Diane and I gave Mum for her birthday. The idea belonged to both of us but the execution was all mine. I've only taken pictures of a few sample pages because 36 pics would certainly bore everybody to death :)

Ich habe den Blog hier für fast 2 Wochen vernachlässigt - obwohl ich sagen muss, dass ich in diesen 2 Wochen sehr viel zu tun hatte. Eine Sache, die ich euch zeigen wollte, ist ein Gutscheinbuch, das Diane und ich unserer Mutter zu ihrem Geburtstag geschenkt haben. Die Idee hatten wir zusammen, aber die Ausführung war dann meine. Ich habe nur Bilder von ein paar der Seiten gemacht, weil 36 Bilder wahrscheinlich jeden zu Tode langweilen würden :)

2 Layouts

The next two LOs will be part of my completely mis-matched birthday/Stratford album. Nicole and I went there for 4 days over my birthday last year. We had a brilliant time exploring the town and going to our first RSC performances. 

Die nächsten zwei LOs gehören zu meinem völlig unzusammenhängenden Geburtstags-/Stratfordalbum. Nicole sind letztes Jahr für 4 Tage über meinen Geburtstag da gewesen. Wir hatten sehr viel Spaß dabei, die Stadt zu erkunden und unsere ersten Vorstellungen der Royal Shakespeare Company anzuschauen.

Online Crop Paperbraut

Paperbraut held an Online Crop on Jan 24th; this was my first online crop and I really enjoyed it. Thanks to everybody who gave me the title Cropbraut :) Wally was very generous and donated vouchers for her shop to all 4 winners - of course I've already spent mine on gorgeous new stash!

Bei Paperbraut wurde am 24. Januar ein Online Crop veranstaltet; das war mein erster online Crop und es hat mir sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Ein herzliches Dankeschön an alle, die mir den Titel Cropbraut verliehen haben :) Wally war sehr großzügig und hat Einkaufsgutscheine für ihren Shop an alle 4 Gewinner gespendet - natürlich habe ich meinen schon für wunderschönen neuen Stash ausgegeben!
